GP and Dentist AED Solutions
As the delivery of healthcare in the community increases, more and more General Practitioners and Dentists are implementing AED programs within their practice.
Primary care
A study of Resuscitation by primary care doctors published in Resuscitation 2006 (70, 229-237) showed that 18% of cardiac arrests occurred at or near to the Doctors surgery and that 27% of patients suffering cardiac arrest who were resuscitated by primary care doctors using an AED survived to hospital discharge. This is more than 5 times the current survival rate for out of hospital SCA in the UK.
Dental Practices
In July 2006 the UK Resuscitation Council released recommendations regarding standards for managing resuscitation and medical emergencies for Dental practitioners and Dental professionals in general dental practice. The recommendations include the following regarding AED availability and training.
-
All clinical areas should have immediate access to an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
-
Dental Practitioners and Dental Care Professionals should all undergo training in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), basic airway management and use of an AED.
